It's such a special thing to have the opportunity to photograph people across the years. A number of years ago, I spent a lovely day with my camera at Darryl and Naomi's Vow Renewal based from their beautiful guest house in Ireby and last month we celebrated Darryl's recent Marmalade win with a series of photographs.
The wonderful Dalemain - home of the Dalemain Mecanopsis - hold their Marmalade World Awards each year with a fabulous mixture of fun and artistry, freshness and heritage (the children in my family were so sad to miss it this year that we had to hold our own mini-awards!). This year, Darryl won the Hotel and B&B Marmalade category with his 'Christingle Marmalade'. Made from the oranges from a cancelled Christingle at the church next to their guest house, the Marmalade has a wonderful story as well as an award-winning taste! To mark the win, we got together to create these photos featuring the Marmalade and Darryl. So many congratulations to Darryl, and all at Woodlands Ireby, for such a wonderful thing! I recently delivered the framed prints of this lovely shoot to the family who won my Spring Competition last year. We had such a wonderful day for it and it was a pleasure to walk, chat and take some photos! I'll be doing another competition in my next newsletter, so to be in with a chance of winning that (and seeing lovely things like this) sign up here: www.delamare-creative.co.uk/newsletter or visit the blog to see if there's a competition running: Competitions
If you've been reading my blogs or posts, you'll notice the phrase 'it's a privilege' come up quite often. The reason is that it often is a privilege to photograph the things I get to celebrate. That's never more true than when working with Hospice at Home. From making films to recording photos like these, helping shine a light on this wonderful charity really does make my heart sing. Do look into their excellent work and considering supporting them today: www.hospiceathome.co.uk
What a cause of celebration to have a sister in love and getting married! And a new brother-in-law as a bonus. Beth and Sam wanted a lo-fi, film-like look to these shots to celebrate their engagement and it was an absolute pleasure (on so many levels!) to oblige. With their wedding venue in the background, these were a joy in every way.
One of the reasons I love my job is that I get to photograph families through the years - celebrating people and moments. I really do feel the joy of that and treasure being involved. A number of years ago I had the pleasure of capturing one of these lovely ladies' weddings (with a celebration in England and in France) and then in June I took photos of her and her husband with their children and then a day later with the wider family. These photos are from the wider shoot - with partners, kids and dogs nearby - and are making me smile today! The two shoots with this lovely family were gift vouchers. If you are looking for a gift, there's nothing more personalised than photos of your family
A shoot with a beautiful Merlot Dowina Guitars named Milly by her besotted owner... It's always wonderful to shoot portraits of precious things. What a gorgeously made piece of art signed by it's maker!
The colours are reminding me of two shoots over that last years with this gorgeous family - one after their little boy was born, then last year with their little girl too! What a joy it is to celebrate milestones with people.
Autumn is such a beautiful season, especially in the Lakes. I'd wholeheartedly recommend it for an outdoor shoot, there's often a crispness in the air and days that gives a little buzz to photos and of course, the colours of the changing trees and landscape make fantastic surroundings. Whether it's down Ullswater or through parkland, it's a great time for a shoot. Get in touch if you want to make the most of the season! If you want to keep up-to-date with goings on here at de la Mare Creative, my autumn newsletter will be out soon with lots of pretty things from across the season. If you'd like to receive it, you can sign up here. Earlier this year I had the very very big pleasure of photographing these wonderful people and dear friends for a Ruby Wedding shoot. We dodged the rain, wandered the shoreline and then had a cup of tea, celebrating this beautiful family. Aren't friends, family and life itself beautiful - www.delamare-creative.co.uk/portraits x
Earlier in the year you might've seen me do a prize draw in my usual waffley manner (sign up for emails about the next one!). This lovely family won the portrait sitting and used it to celebrate their newest family member. There were lots of giggles, singing and silliness (and that was just the adults!!)
For your own record of giggles, silliness and family, you can book your sitting here and get in touch to chat. What a month! Being the Elven Queen is always amazing - the Fairyland experience is hard to describe but you can see from these photos that it's a magical thing to be involved with. The team (photos below!) have been amazing, from our Fairy Queen to all our fairies, pixies and Wizards who make Fairyland so much fun for the hundreds of fairy families who visited. A special shout-out goes to the team who made our beautiful Dragon (I only did a few scales here and there!) - isn't he gorgeous and he actual purred wisps of smoke! Thank you to everyone who came!
In addition to the lovely spread of our photos (and brilliant article by Woodlands Country House & Cottage) in this month's edition of Your North West Wedding magazine from Naomi and Darryl's day, the magazine kindly carried an article all about the Hospice at Home Carlisle and North Lakeland 25th Anniversary Raffle. You can see it the article here.
I've had the absolute pleasure of working with Hospice at Home for a number of years – from promotional films and photography to helping to sell sunflowers at Kendal Calling, and I’m always amazed at the wonderful work they do. I'm so pleased to contribute a sitting voucher and one of gorgeous Nkuku frames as one of the prizes in the raffle. The raffle runs until the 24th August, 2022. Get in contact if you want to know more or you can buy raffle tickets here. Last May, I had the pleasure of meeting this lovely lady when she took part in the Kaleidoscope Devoted Film. She is an artist and I filmed her creating a pastel piece based on the idea of celebration and 'party threads'. After meeting, we organised to get together along with her husband in Astley Park in Chorley to shoot some maternity photos and then again when their gorgeous little boy was born. I'm so passionate about the power of photos, and their memories, being in peoples hands and homes that I was thrilled when I was able to create an album for them. Working together, we designed one of Graphistudio's beautiful 'Baby Book' album and box sets to house their photos so they can go back and enjoy these precious moments again and again! I feel I say it a lot, but it really is always a pleasure to share and celebrate these life events with people. We have a 20% discount offer running for our sittings booked in January and February, use the code 'WINTEROFFER20' when checking out one of our Gift Certificates for a Sitting or get in touch to book a sitting!
What a joy it is to photograph people! This is what it's all about... this wonderful family weren't able to be together in person for Lucy and Rubens' wedding but we were able to capture these photos of pure joy and togetherness over Christmas. I've worked with the lovely Mother-of-the-Bride before (as well as both being Guerns) and it was such a pleasure to celebrate their new international family with these photos down at Pooley Bridge with Ullswater behind us. The clouds parted for a very brief window where we walked rain-free for these photos, before it carried on with a vengeance for the rest of the day! The last years have been tough with many missed moments, however silver linings like these are beautiful to see. Get in touch to book a sitting - they are such a bundle of joy and a great way to celebrate your family!
Get ready for some cuteness! Had the absolute joy of photographing this family of Sprollies in the daisies before they went off to their new homes!
It goes without saying that 2020 has been an unusual year. It’s also been a time of change here as, after 15 years, I’ve gone full-time as a photographer and creative. For many years, I’ve had the pleasure of working for a few days each as a graphic designer for Ullswater Community College and have counted celebrating the students of that school as one of the joys of my life. As 2020 began, it felt right to transition my role out and give my time fully to my business after eleven years at UCC. From this summer we’ve had a name change, from de la Mare Photography to de la Mare Creative, and whilst this isn’t necessarily the easiest year to do it in, I’m excited for the changes and opportunities ahead!
Over the next few months there will be updates on our website and social media pages - we have exciting new collaborations happening, some seasonal shoots and a new photographic venture coming too. So follow us and come along for the ride! You can find us on facebook: www.facebook.com/delamarecreative and on Instagram @delamarecreative For many years, March meant my annual visit to Eden Boutique at Newton Rigg for a fantastic couple of days shooting the end of year Creative image work from the hairdressers and beauty therapists there. Sadly, due to Coronavirus, this year's shoot had to be cancelled so here's a couple of my favourites from the class of 2019 instead!
It's been a busy two or three months leading to a very delayed 'Best of 2017'. I almost considered leaving it until 2018 but there were so many lovely moments in the last year that I thought it was worth popping them up even if they are a little late. Thank you to all those who have appeared through the lens of the de la Mare camera this year! Weddings...Starting with a stunning Couple's shoot for Simon and Bethany in January, following their London wedding, this year's weddings have been a joy! There's a couple in here too of Tom and Hannah's stunning Graphistudio album that arrived this year. Congratulations one and all. Floral and Fauna...It's hard categorising photos - a few in here could fit into the lovely people section, just they aren't people! Getting out and about or shooting pets in the studio were some of the highlights of 2017, with another successful Pet Week in Angel Square and lots of opportunities for capturing nature. Businesses and Organisations...It's been such a pleasure to work with lots of different local businesses and organisations again this year including the beautiful work of mj cabinetmakers, a stunning fashion collection, work for the wonderful Ullswater Community College (including a little bit of Joey Essex) and Eden Boutique and a project for Hospice at Home's 20th anniversary including a visit from The Duchess of Gloucester. If you don't know about Hospice at Home, please check out their website - it's a wonderful charity. Sessions with some lovely people...Really, it's all about people. Thank you to all of these people who spent a little portion of their 2017 with me as we preserved a few memories together. After a great time at last year in the Devonshire Arcade, we're running our second Pet Week in Penrith. We saw so many cute fluffy and furry local residents and we're looking forward to seeing even more this year! We will be in Angel Square in Penrith, handily next to Costa Coffee, next week from Monday the 23rd to Saturday the 28th of October. Go to our Pet Week page to book in or feel free to contact us for more info. We look forward to welcoming you to Pet Week 2017! Once again it was an absolute pleasure to photograph the final projects of the students at Newton Rigg's Eden Boutique. As ever there was great evidence of creative ideas and skilful execution. Here are a few of my favourites from the two days...
I'm a little slow in getting these up too but another enjoyable, and lovely, family sitting. This time the session was a complete surprise for Mum as a Mother's Day present (well done Dad!). Such a cutie too!
These lovely people were around a couple of weekends ago and so we braved the March weather and popped outside for a couple of photos!
We're on catch up time here at de la Mare Photography!! So hopefully some updates, blogs and photos will be appearing online in the next few weeks but in the meantime we can say hello to this gorgeous model who secretly visited us at Pet Week with de la Mare Photography last year to take a few shots for a Christmas present.
As per usual, I'm rather behind with the blog-keeping! As a result I have a little load of photos from different sittings to pop up here! One of which is this lovely set from a recent family sitting down on Ullswater. We walked from Pooley Bridge and had a lovely wonder, climbing trees and paddling in the water along the way. A perfect way to spend an afternoon!
